Welcome to "The Heart of England"

District 1060 Logo

This title arises from the geographical location of the area close to the centre of the landmass of England, allied to its industrial heritage as the place where all the important wealth creating industry has traditionally been situated. Recent economic history has brought a vast change to the region generally, and led to the demise of large parts of the manufacturing base. However a great upsurge of retail, service and financial industries has ensured the continuing importance of Birmingham in the UK economy.

District 1060 is based around the cities of Birmingham and Coventry. Over recent years Birmingham has regenerated to become one of the most attractive and modern cities in Europe, whilst Coventry with its long history, remains one of the UK's top tourist attractions. The District extends into other nearby towns as well as the rural shires of Warwick and parts of adjoining counties, where agriculture predominates in typically attractive English countryside. The more famous tourist towns include Stratford upon Avon, Warwick, Royal Leamington Spa, Rugby and Lichfield. Specialist manufacturers still survive in the smaller towns such as carpets in Kidderminster and glassware in Brierley Hill.
